A smell of smoke near an Emporia intersection is resulting in a citation for one local resident.
The smoke smell was reported near Seventh and Lincoln around 9 am Friday. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Rich Gould says there was an illegal burn at 645 Lincoln. No property damage was reported, although the fire came up against at least one structure before it was put out.
The resident’s name has not been released. Gould says the burn was not properly called in to authorities before it began.
