Emporia State choirs are hosting a special outdoor concert this weekend.
The Peter Pan Park Amphitheater will host Emporia State University’s A Cappella Choir and Chamber Choir for a special free outdoor concert Sunday afternoon. ESU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Robert Ward says this concert is special because of the role students took in organizing it.
Ward says students will be performing Beck Hansen’s Song Reader album, which was released as only sheet music in 2012. Each song is in a different style chosen by students, so musical styles will range from New Orleans Jazz to barbershop quartet.
The concert starts at 3 p.m. and Ward invites the public to bring blankets, chairs, and even a picnic to enjoy with the music. Ward says they want to reach new audiences in the Emporia community with the concert.
