Newman Regional Health hosted its annual Diabetes Community Health Fair on Thursday evening at the Bowyer Building.
The featured speaker and an internal medicine specialist at Cotton O’Neil Emporia, Dr. Charisse Symmonds, had some health tips for managing diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Symmonds says public education events like Thursday’s health fair give patients a chance to get more detailed information about diabetes and ask their physicians follow up questions. Symmonds says specializing enables herself to best treat patients.
Symmonds says it is important for anyone with diabetes make sure you have yearly eye exams, check your feet regularly, and having doctors screen your urine for kidney complications.
