Free Landfill Days begin Saturday, and there are some new rules of the road for residents wanting to participate.
Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn joined KVOE’s Newsmaker segment this week to detail the changes. The biggest: one trip for residents of Lyon and Chase counties instead of two.
Other new guidelines worth noting:
*The limit will be 1,000 pounds for passenger cars, light trucks — one ton or less — and trailers.
*Refrigerators, air conditioners and other refrigerant-holding units will be charged at the normal rate.
As has been the case in years past, the April electric bill must be presented to the gate attendant. This is strictly for residents, so commercial or industrial businesses are not eligible to participate. Customers also have to secure or cover all loads to avoid penalty fees.
The first 1,000 pounds will be free of charge. Additional materials over 1,000 pounds will be charged at normal city rates — 23.08 cents per 10 pounds for trash and 12.54 cents per 10 pounds for construction-demolition debris.
Hours are 8 am-5 pm Monday through Saturday and 1-5 pm Sunday. Spring Landfill Days end May 6.
