For the 10th time overall and first time since 2012 the Emporia State softball team is the MIAA post season tournament Champion.
The Lady Hornets became the first 8th seed to win the MIAA post season tournament championship Saturday. The Lady Hornets won the if necessary, winner take all, title game 6-0 over Central Oklahoma.
Central Oklahoma forced the if necessary game by winning the first championship game 7-4. In the first game Central Oklahoma scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st and never trailed. The Lady Hornets did score 2 runs in the 3rd inning to make it a 5-4 Central lead. Central would score 2 more runs 4th and held on for the win that snapped Emporia States 12 game winning streak.
In the winner take all championship game Emporia State scored a run in the 1st and 2nd innings. They would score 4 runs in the 4th. Annie Rockley hit a 3 run home run and Danielle Sprinkle added an RBI double. Montana Mesler was the winning pitcher tossing a complete game 4 hit shutout. The Lady Hornets receive the MIAAs automatic NCAA Tournament bid. The Central regionals will begin on May 10th at sites to be determined.
