Disc golfers from around the world kept warm Friday, thanks to a Swedish tradition.
The annual Swedish Bonfire took place at the Lyon County Fairgrounds as a part of the Glass Blown Open festivities. Representatives of Dynamic Discs and Swedish disc manufacturers Latitude 64 host the event each year.
The event began with the lighting of the fire and a special song all the way from Sweden performed by Latitude 64’s Johanes Hogberg.
After the bonfire was lit, Hogberg spoke to KVOE and shared the meaning of the tradition.
In years past, the event has taken place at Dynamic Discs distribution warehouse but it had to be moved to the fairgrounds due to the number of competitors. Activities during the event included a junior disc golf glow round and several disc throwing contests for cash prizes including a $1,000 ace challenge. The GBO continues Saturday with the annual block party on Commercial Street.
