MAPLE HILL — A Wabaunsee County man was killed in a train-truck crash Friday evening.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened about two miles north of Maple Hill around 6 pm. The incident developed after a pickup was crossing railroad tracks on Willard Road near Bouchey Road. The truck’s trailer detached on the tracks. Maple Hill resident David Miller, 58, left the truck to reattach the trailer but was hit by the train as he tried to get back in the truck.
Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. The train’s conductor and passenger, 41-year-old Ryan Idleman of Manhattan and 32-year-old Jonathon Sheppard II of Herington, were not hurt.
