A Nebraska man was hospitalized in Emporia after his car was rear-ended on the Kansas Turnpike on Saturday.
The crash at mile marker 143, four miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove exit and 16 miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate, happened around 7:30 am. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a trooper was in the process of making a traffic stop as 22-year-old Calvin Tyrone Lyncook II of Omaha was allegedly speeding. Lyncook stopped in a traffic lane as opposed to the shoulder. His car was then rear-ended by a semi driven by 45-year-old Marcus Brown of Arkansas City.
Lyncook was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and possible treatment afterward. The hospital does not release patient conditions to the media. Brown was not hurt.

One person was transported to Emporia for medical treatment following a two-vehicle crash on the Kansas Turnpike in northeast Lyon County on Saturday morning.
Initial indications from the Turnpike Authority are a semi rear-ended a car near mile marker 143 southbound, about four miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove tollgate and 16 miles northeast of the Emporia gate. The wreck happened around 7:30 am. The patient was taken to Newman Regional Health afterward.
