The Emporia State baseball team completed a sweep of Northeastern State in a 3 game series with a 5-2 win Sunday.
Emporia State scored a run in the 2nd inning. Kaden Shaffer scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Lopez. The Hornets added a second run in the 3rd inning. Brian Grove scored on a single by Bryce Fischer. In the 4th inning Tate Kastens hit a 2 run homerun.
Emporia State added a run in the 5th on a error. Taylor Thompson was the winning pitcher going 6 innings giving up no runs on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts.
Northeastern scored 2 runs in the 7th. They were retired in order in both the 8th and the 9th innings. Nate Gieber earned his 4th save. Coach Bob Fornelli says they are playing the right way.
With the win the Hornets improve to 27-19 and 18-15 in the MIAA. They close out the regular season next weekend at Lindenwood.
