HARTFORD — Three Lyon County fire departments were called out to the site of a grass fire Monday afternoon, but ultimately just one was needed for the job.
Fire crews from Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Emporia and Olpe were dispatched to the intersection of Roads 110 and U around 2 pm after the fire was reported. Emporia and Olpe firefighters were canceled before reaching the scene.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Craig Andrews tells KVOE News a fire developed in some trees near the intersection last week and rekindled in windy conditions Monday afternoon, throwing embers into nearby grass.
Less than three acres burned. There were no injuries.
