Nearly a week after a noninjury crash involving a Lyon County deputy’s SUV with another SUV in west Emporia, few details have been released.
The wreck happened around 3:30 p.m. April 25 at US Highway 50 and Graphic Arts Road. The Kansas Highway Patrol handled the initial investigation. The Highway Patrol confirmed the deputy’s SUV was broadsided at the intersection but referred all other questions about the wreck to the Sheriff’s Office. According to Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope, an internal policy review is being conducted but he can’t speak to that because it is a personnel matter.
The crash happened shortly after a vehicle fire was reported at Fanestil Meats’ Fresh Local Market, 4700 West Highway 50. Authorities have not confirmed whether the deputy was responding to the fire call when the crash occurred.
