The Emporia High baseball team split a doubleheader with Topeka Hayden Tuesday night.
The Spartans won the first game 12-6. The Spartans scored 4 runs in the first inning to take a 4-2 lead. They added 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 4 runs in the 3rd inning. Sawyer Slayden drove in 3 runs and was the winning pitcher.
Hayden won the 2nd game 7-6, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th with 2 out to steal the win. Hayden scored 4 runs in the 3rd. Emporia High answered with 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Coach Anthony Markowitz said it was a good two games for the Spartans.
The Spartans are now 6-10 for the season. They will host the Emporia Baseball Classic Friday and Saturday. They play Garden City Friday and Mill Valley Saturday.
Andover Central, Bishop Miege and Maize South will be playing in the Classic.
