Showers and thunderstorms could impact the KVOE listening area Thursday afternoon. However, the risk of severe weather is not as notable as it was earlier in the day.
The Storm Prediction Center originally had much of the KVOE area in a slight risk for severe weather, with areas northeast of Emporia in an enhanced risk. As part of its 8 am update, however, the slight and enhanced risk areas were both pulled to the northeast after ongoing storm activity in Oklahoma began limiting surface heating and resulting instability, so most of our area now faces a marginal severe weather risk for Thursday afternoon.
The initial concerns were for all severe weather hazards, but the current lack of instability has greatly reduced any tornado or hail risk.

6 am Thursday: Second round of severe weather possible Thursday
More strong storms could impact the KVOE listening area Thursday.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers expects storms to fire by early afternoon and it is another all-hazards day, but he says this is a trickier forecast than the ones for Wednesday and Tuesday.
Thursday’s potential follows a hectic Wednesday evening that included two confirmed tornado touchdowns, one near the Kansas Turnpike Matfield Green service area and one near BETO Junction at Interstate 35 and US Highway 75. Storms also brought high straight-line winds to Chase and Greenwood counties, along with power outages to parts of Lyon and Greenwood counties.
