Signs of progress are evident as Emporia State University continues work on a new dormitory.
Director of Residence Life Cass Coughlin tells KVOE News those signs of work take several forms at Schallenkamp Hall.
Coughlin says Schallenkamp Hall is blessed by a good location near King Hall and the Memorial Union. It will also feature a learning commons area near the Market Street entrance to foster collaborative learning for students.
Construction should be finished by August 2019.
This comes as Emporia State plans for renovations at Abigail Morse Hall, in use by ESU since 1924. Coughlin says planning continues to give Abigail Morse Hall a similar learning environment that’s part of the Schallenkamp Hall work. At the same time, Central Morse and Northeast Morse will eventually come down.
The planning stage could be done by fall. Demolition for Northeast Morse would wait until the 2018-19 school year is completed. Renovations for Abigail Morse should be completed before the fall 2020 semester begins.
