A beautiful spring morning highlighted the first Emporia Farmers Market of the season Saturday.
The parking lot at 7th and Merchant was filled with vendors showing off their freshest produce including asparagus, radishes, spring greens and pastries. Emporia Farmers’ Market Director Jessica Hopkins says the May market is a great chance for those with a green thumb to get a start on their summer gardens.
Hopkins says the first market of the season is just the start to a summer full of activities.
There has been a discussion to move the market recently, but nothing has been finalized. Hopkins says she knows what type of venue she would like to see, however they are not in any hurry to make the change.
Along with the produce and vendors, community members were treated to medieval demonstrations thanks to the Society for Creative Anachronism. The Farmers’ Market will take place every Saturday until October with Wednesday evening markets beginning in June.
