A two-day bike race is being hosted this weekend by High Gear Cyclery in Emporia, inviting cyclists from across the country to help a good cause.
Riders will compete for over 89 miles Saturday and 59 miles Sunday looking for the fastest time, and a $6,000 top prize. High Gear Cyclery owner Matt Brown says they’re raising money for his nonprofit Handlebars of Hope which provides children in need with bicycles.
The event includes 200 experienced cyclists including past Dirty Kanza participants. The race begins at 9 a.m. on 520 Commercial both Saturday and Sunday and will finish in downtown Emporia both afternoons. Tom Hayden, one of many event coordinators says Saturday also includes activities for the family.
Sunday includes a chapel service at 8 a.m. at 502 Commercial Street as well as a fun ride at 9:05 a.m. For more information, visit ridelagrind.com.
