The Emporia Police Department Benefit Association is helping support Special Olympics athletes in the upcoming state games.
The EPD Scramble for Special Olympics golf tournament was Saturday morning at the Emporia Golf Course. Emporia Police Officer and EPD Benefit Association President Jaffar Agha tells KVOE News how the funds raised from the event support athletes.
Agha says law enforcement has supported Special Olympics since the 1980s to foster better relations with individuals with disabilities. Agha says as tradition, EPD will be helping run the torch this year.
On May 30-31, local law enforcement will help bring the torch from BETO Junction to Emporia and then take it from Emporia to El Dorado.
KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas will accompany the riders from Emporia to Olpe, and once again he’s soliciting donations to help the effort. You can pledge your amount by calling KVOE at 342-1400, messaging the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863 or by emailing kvoe@kvoe.com. You can also bring your donation to KVOE at 1420 C of E Drive or contact the station and we will pick up your donation.
