As the school year draws to a close more students are receiving degrees at Emporia State University, prompting changes to its spring commencement schedule.
For the first time in the school’s 155-year history, it will have three commencement activities. The graduate degrees will be presented at 6 p.m. May 11 at White Auditorium. ESU Provost David Cordle says the undergraduate ceremonies are being split, noting it’s a good problem to have.
University officials waited until last fall to determine whether to split the ceremonies. ESU President Allison Garrett says it was a tough but necessary decision.
Board of Regents member Daniel Thomas will be the commencement speaker at all three events.
Separately, the nurse pinning ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 11 at Albert Taylor Hall.
