The Humane Society of the Flint Hills is working to bring dogs and families together.
Humane Society Director Judy Dieker was on KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 recently to discuss the upcoming Dog Jog 5K at the Lyon County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Dieker says funds raised will go be going to the animal shelter.
The Dog Jog is open to anyone with or without a dog. Cost is $20 for adults and free for kids and dogs. Check-in is at 9 a.m. at Bowyer Building with the run starting at 10 a.m. All dogs must be on a leash and have current tags.
Dieker also discussed current effort to get weekend foster care pet providers. Dieker said after great online discourse about applications, she was disappointed they had only received one application so far.
The program helps relieve stress on pets who have to spend most of their time in a cage.
To become a licensed foster care provider you must fill out an application and pass a home inspection, the Humane Society will pay the state processing fee for your licenses and provide the pet food.
You can register for the Dog Jog on the Humane Society’s Facebook page and sign up to volunteer at www.humanesocietyflinthills.org.
