Gas prices could be on the rise with the summer driving season right around the corner. And it may be a while until those prices come down.
AAA Kansas warns that due to the re-imposition of economic sanctions on Iran, as announced by President Donald Trump this week, that prices could go much higher in Kansas by later in the summer. AAA Kansas spokesman Shawn Steward.
It may be a while before that happens, depending on the markets. AAA estimates the national average could hit $3 a gallon if crude oil sells for $70 a barrel.
As of Thursday, the statewide average in Kansas was at $2.61, up 16 cents from one month ago and the highest since 2014. The national average is at $2.84. Last year at this time, Kansans were paying on average $2.17 at the pump. Steward says there are ways motorists can increase their gas mileage and, thus, save money at the pump.
