A reported vehicle fire at Emporia’s west edge turned out to be less of an issue than first thought.
Firefighters were called to Flying J at 4215 West US Highway 50 shortly before 6:30 am Thursday. Fire Capt. Jesse Taylor says a hot brake drum developed on a UPS semi as it pulled into the service station parking lot. The driver then reported the incident as a vehicle fire.
No injuries were reported. Truck damage appears limited to the affected brake drum.
