An Emporia man has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving following a reported injury crash early Thursday morning.
Lyon County Deputy Steve Dall says the wreck happened in the 1200 block of Road 165 around 5:15 am. An SUV driven by 24-year-old Cody Baker was eastbound on Road 165 just east of Norfolk Iron and Metal when the crash developed. Baker reported trying to miss a deer in the road. Instead, he hit a small stone culvert and continued into a ditch before stopping.
An Emporia rescue crew checked out Baker at the wreck site. He declined further treatment and was subsequently jailed on suspicion of drunk driving afterward. Baker’s blood alcohol content has not been released.
6 am Thursday: Injury crash reported near Emporia’s Industrial Park III
Lyon County deputies are investigating a reported injury crash just east of Emporia early Thursday.
The crash was reported in the 1200 block of Road 165, or between Roads M-5 and M-7, around 5:15 am. Early indications are an SUV was eastbound on South Avenue, which becomes Lyon County Road 165 just east of Norfolk Iron and Metal. The driver veered off the road, hit a large stone just off the roadway and continued into a ditch.
The driver’s name has not been released. He was treated at the scene for apparently minor injuries. At this time, there is no word on whether that person will need further medical attention. Authorities have not confirmed early indications the driver tried to miss a deer in the road shortly before the wreck.
