The Glenn Miller Orchestra certainly put the Emporia area in the swing of things last night.
The world-famous swing band entertained a near-sellout crowd at the Granada Theatre with many of its favorites, closing out its first set by honoring veterans in the audience with a rousing rendition of “American Patrol.”
The band’s namesake, Glenn Miller, formed a band in 1937 that disbanded a year later. The orchestra re-formed in 1938 and spun out 70 Top 10 hits through Miller’s disappearance on Dec. 15, 1944.
The orchestra’s appearance in Emporia is part of a tour that continues through June 2019 while continuing a busy four-night stretch for the Granada, which ends Saturday night with My Posse In Effect: Beastie Boys Tribute. Tickets are available for that show.
