Celebration was the rule of the weekend for Emporia State University.
Commencement exercises took place Friday and Saturday for the first time in the university’s history. President Allison Garrett tells KVOE News she was pleased with how the split went, and she was also glad students realized the worth of a college education at Emporia State.
Candidates for graduate degrees received their diplomas Friday — a first for Emporia State, which has had graduate students receive their degrees on the same day as undergraduate students for generations. Undergraduate students had two separate ceremonies Saturday — one for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and another for students in the School of Business and Teachers College. Nursing students also were pinned as part of a ceremony Friday afternoon.
Garrett says regardless of the education level, students eligible for degrees earned their diplomas.
All told, over 920 students were eligible to pick up their degrees this weekend.
