7 runs off 4 home runs was to much for Emporia States softball team to overcome in a 9-1 loss to Minnesota Duluth in the Central Regional Championship game Sunday.
Duluth scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning on a 3 run home run hit by Jordyn Thomas.
Danielle Sprinkle led off the 2nd inning with a solo home run for Emporia States only run.
Duluth would score 4 runs on 3 home runs in the 3rd inning. Hannah Schmoll and Natalie Wright hit solo home runs and Jordyn Thomas hit a 2 run home run to give the Bulldogs a 7-1 lead.
Duluth scored 2 runs in the 6th for the final margin of victory. Emporia State Coach April Rosales said it turned out not to be their day.
The Lady Hornets at one time was 13 games under 500 and would go onto win 15 of their last 18 games.Coach Rosales said they learned some life lessons.
The Emporia State softball team finished the season with a 30-31 record.
