The Kansas Business Hall of Fame at Emporia State University has announced the inductees for the 2018 class next month.
Longtime journalist Bill Kurtis and late businessman Robert Wright will be honored during the 46th Team Kansas Awards Banquet on June 5.
Wright settled in Dodge City in the 1860s and owned one of the largest commercial empires of the area by 1872. He also was a trader and a contractor for hauling grain and cutting both hay and wood.
Kurtis, meanwhile, became famous for his reporting of the 1966 Topeka tornado and gained later fame for his hosting of shows like American Justice, Investigative Reports and Cold Case Files. He now renovates old buildings into tourist attractions and started a grass-fed beef company in 2005.
This is the 30th year of inductions for the Kansas Business Hall of Fame. As part of the annual banquet in Lawrence, the Team Kansas Silver Stirrup Award, Governor’s Exporter of the Year Award and Governor’s Award of Excellence will be presented.
