Severe weather could threaten plans Saturday as two rounds of storms are possible for our area.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed a marginal risk for the Emporia area. Storms are expected to develop after midnight bringing the risk of damaging winds, especially west along a Council Grove to Manhattan line. The storms will move across the rest of northeast Kansas and produce gusty winds and locally heavy rains but should diminish by mid-morning on Saturday.
A second round will develop after 3 p.m. Saturday and will intensify through late afternoon. They will be capable of producing very large hail, damaging winds and also the potential for a few tornadoes. If you have plans outdoors Saturday afternoon and evening, it is advised you monitor the weather and be prepared and have shelter readily available.
Most of the KVOE listening area including all of Lyon County is in a slight risk for storms Saturday afternoon and evening with a moderate risk for areas to the north including all of Wabaunsee County as well as northeastern Morris and extreme northern Osage counties.
Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates as warranted.
