A grand slam in the 3rd inning was all Central Oklahoma needed to defeat the Emporia State baseball team 4-1 in an elimination game of the Central Regional tournament Saturday.
Emporia State tried to rally scoring a run in the top of the 4th. Mack Gowing scored on a Mason Brown sacrifice fly. Central Oklahoma pitching shutdown the Hornets giving up 2 hits, one a bunt single, and struck out 11. Both teams stranded 6 base runners. Senior Mack Gowing said they gave it their best effort.
Senior Mason Brown said the way the season ended was all you could ask for.
Coach Bob Fornelli said they played the rightway at the end of the season.
With the loss the Hornets finish the season with a 34-24 record.
Emporia State opened the regional with a 8-6 win over #1 seed Southern Arkansas. They were defeated by Augustana 4-2 in the 2nd round before losing to Central Oklahoma 4-1.
