Emporia families will receive a lot of information on safe summer activities this week.
The fifth annual Keep it a Safe Summer event will be taking place Wednesday at the Lyon County Fair Grounds Anderson Building. The event is targeted at children ranging from pre-k to fifth grade.
Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says the event allows them to discuss a number of safety topics with local children.
Keep it a Safe Summer is a cooperative event between several local agencies. The event is free and open to the public and will also feature a special 2K and 5K run and walk along with food and prizes. All children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult.
A new addition this year will allow children in attendance to choose one of the following summer activity packages:
Bicycle helmet
Swim package
Disc golf package
The event goes from 5-7 pm. Drawings for prizes will begin at 7 pm, and you must be in attendance to claim your prize.
Families in all Lyon County’s education districts — USD 253 Emporia, USD 251 North Lyon County and USD 252 Southern Lyon County — are encouraged to attend along with families in USD 284 Chase County.
