The Kansas Turnpike continues as a busy work zone north of Emporia.
Already with a major series of bridge upgrades between the Emporia gate and the Emporia service area, the Turnpike is now the subject of a pavement resurfacing project from just north of the Emporia service area north to near Topeka. Spokesperson Jeri Biehler:
Work is now underway and could continue until late October. Bettis Asphalt & Construction of Topeka won the contract with a $9.9 million bid.
Drivers can expect single-lane closures between mileposts 133 and 168 as well as a 12-foot width restriction and a 65 mph speed limit. Traffic impacts will be posted online at www.KanDrive.org. Additional information will be online at www.ksturnpike.com and the Kansas Turnpike Authority’s Twitter page.
Three shorter-term projects are underway southwest of Emporia. Road repairs are taking place on the southbound inside lane between mile markers 106 and 110 just south of the Flint Hills cattle pens exit. Also, there is a moving closure along the northbound inside lane for barrier cleaning. That will impact the highway between the Matfield Green service exit and the Emporia tollgate.
