Emporia fire crews battled a blaze in a rather unusual location Wednesday.
Firefighters dealt with a trash fire on a semi at the Emporia-Lyon County Transfer Station. The call was reported as a vehicle fire shortly before 1 pm. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says several areas of trash were on fire when crews arrived.
Steinlage says around 7,000 gallons of water were ultimately poured onto the trash load. Parts of the load that were not on fire were also pulled out of the semi and dumped as normal.
The cause — or causes — of the fires is not yet known. No injuries were reported. Hamm Sanitary Landfill owns the truck.
