Recent spotty rainfall has caused a rather wide variance in drought conditions across the KVOE listening area.
The northern two-thirds of Lyon County, including Emporia, is in severe drought along with much of Chase, Coffey and Osage counties, almost all of Morris County and all of Wabaunsee County.
Moderate drought can be noted in southern Lyon, southern Chase, eastern Coffey and eastern Osage counties. Abnormally dry conditions cover most of Greenwood County as well.
Unfortunately, extreme drought still remains in western Chase and Morris counties.
Since May 15, the KVOE studios have received 2.25 inches of rainfall, including half an inch of rain Thursday and early Friday, with higher amounts in pockets across Lyon and surrounding counties. The May total at KVOE is 2.75 inches.
