Early repairs have started at the site of a water main break in western Emporia.
Underground Utilities Supervisor Mike Dvorak tells KVOE News a 6 foot split developed in a main at Sixth and Sherman, causing water to flow into nearby drains at the intersection and a block east at Sixth and Wilson. The cause of the split is still undetermined. The pavement near the break site also fractured and heaved in several locations as a result.
The situation was first reported around 7 am. Dvorak says crews were working to find the exact source of the break. They also re-routed water to limit the offline time for affected customers. Water service has been fully restored along the affected area. Full repairs should be completed by Tuesday, motorists should be aware of condensed traffic in the area.
