LEBO and FREDONIA — Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative has announced it is launching a consolidation plan with Radiant Electric Cooperative based in Fredonia.
Should the consolidation gain approval, the workforces of both current businesses would be maintained with a combined count of nearly 50 workers. There would be $9 million in cost savings over the next decade but there would be no changes in electric service for the nearly 13,000 customer accounts in 14 counties. The cooperative’s respective boards would combine to govern and current business offices in Lebo, Emporia and Fredonia would continue to operate.
The new legal entity would be called 4Rivers Energy Cooperative.
This merger needs the approval of two-thirds of the customers and members present at an upcoming meeting of both businesses. Lyon-Coffey and Radiant will have separate votes on the same day in November. That date is to be announced.
