Lyon County commissioners fielded the latest department budget request during their action session Thursday.
County Attorney Marc Goodman submitted a tentative budget that adds a new position: a victim advocate that would be assigned to local law enforcement if approved. The tentative budget then includes roughly $60,000 for the position, with $45,000 set aside for salary and the remainder for fringe benefits.
In other business, commissioners approved a nearly $48,000 quote from Schumann Electric for work at the bus barn. A zoning change request was also approved, thus allowing a conditional use permit at 1863 Road G so a mobile home can be built in agriculture zoning.
Also, a request to vacate Road A from Road 310 north past Road 330 will wait at least two weeks for a resolution. Commissioners had taken the road vacation request under advisement a month ago after extensive discussions with residents and also Morris County officials. The road was built in the 1880s but doesn’t stay on the county line and now is largely invisible north of Road 310. Original road documents exist, but the area is in a floodplain and a road vacation could involve several state agencies and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
