The Special Olympics torch is now in Emporia — for a few hours, anyway.
The torch came to Emporia officially from BETO Junction on Wednesday, accompanied by local law enforcement, members of the Ottawa Police Department and local Special Olympians. Among them: Drake Lutes, who got to ride in a law enforcement SUV for the final leg. His experience?
Also participating in the walk was Morgan Baker. She was grateful for the support from local and area law enforcement.
The torch now will be paraded out of Emporia shortly after 9 am. The parade begins at Kellogg Circle, 12th and Commercial, and continues south. Ron’s Ride, KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas’ ride to Olpe, essentially sends the torch on its first leg from Emporia to El Dorado before the day is over.
