Kansas First District Congressman Roger Marshall was in Emporia Monday morning for a pair of industry tours.
Marshall visited Simmons Pet Foods and Bunge North America before departing to Garnett to tour an ethanol plant there. He says the goal of this trip is to listen and learn what businesses are seeing in the current economic climate.
Another purpose of the trip, Marshall says is to sway President Donald Trump on the issue of trade, specifically within the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Marshall says those tariffs are impacting a number of industries in Kansas.
Marshall praised Simmons Pet Foods for its $38 million expansion project. As a member of the House Agricultural Committee, Marshall says hearing from ag producers like Bunge is critical when it comes to assessing how NAFTA is impacting them moving forward.
