Emporia Police have identified the victim of an early Tuesday morning crash involving a car and a motorcycle that occurred just in front of the entry to Simmons Pet Food.
Police say 28-year-old Nathan McDonald of Emporia was westbound shortly before 6 a.m. on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on East Logan Ave. when he was struck by a passenger car attempting to turn into the parking lot at 1400 East Logan Ave. The passenger car was driven by 41-year-old Constancia Apodaca and police say the bike struck the passenger side of Apodaca’s vehicle.
The police report indicates that McDonald suffered apparent injuries including a laceration to the face and a possible broken leg. He was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health. Initially, a LifeTeam helicopter was called out but did not transport anyone from the scene. Apodaca had no apparent injuries.
Police anticipate that Apodaca will be cited for failure to yield.
10 a.m. Monday
One person was transported Tuesday morning following a crash involving a passenger car and a motorcycle.
The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Logan Ave. right in front of the west entrance to Simmons Pet Foods. Details are still being determined but Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says a male patient was transported to Newman Regional Health. His name and the extent of his injuries has not been released.
A LifeTeam helicopter was dispatched but police say he was not airlifted.
Officials cleared the scene shortly after 7 a.m. Further details are pending from the Emporia Police Department.
7:30 a.m. Monday
Details are pending following an injury accident that occurred in the 1400 block of East Logan Ave, right in front of Simmons Pet Foods early Tuesday morning.
Emporia Police Lt. Kevin Risley tells KVOE News the accident involved a passenger car and a motorcycle and the accident occurred sometime before 6 a.m. A Life Team helicopter was called to the scene and the roadway was closed for a brief time as crews investigated. The scene has been cleared.
It is unclear how many people were injured. Emporia Police continue to investigate.
