The Salina Falcons held on for a 5-3 win over the Emporia Senior American Legion baseball team in the Sam Ellis Classic Championship game Sunday.
Salina scored a run in the 1st inning. They added a run in the 4th inning. In the 6th inning the Falcons scored 3 runs to take a 5-0 led. Post 5 scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Beau Baumgardner, Hayden Baumwart and Sawyer Slayden each scored on groundouts. The Post 5 seniors out hit Salina 7 hits to 5. Coach Anthony Markowitz said the weekend was a big step in the right direction.
Emporia Advanced to the championship game after an 11-0 win over Wellington in the semi-finals. Sawyer Slayden drove in 4 runs including 2 on a home run in the 1st inning.
Salina advanced to the championship game after a 11-1 win over the Kansas Senators.
The Emporia AAA Legion baseball team is now 8-3 to for the season. They play a 9 inning game at Manhattan Tuesday.
