A first court appearance is now set for a Strong City woman who authorities say permitted her pit bull to get loose on three separate occasions.
Shelby Carson will appear before a judge at 10 a.m. July 13 in Chase County District Court. Carson was arrested Thursday. She’s been formally charged with three counts of permitting a dangerous dog to be at large.
Her arrest followed a June 4 incident where Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker shot and killed the dog after he said the dog became aggressive toward him and another responding deputy. Dorneker told KVOE News it wasn’t the first time Carson’s dog had escaped and noted he tried multiple times to subdue the animal before putting it down. The dog was picked up by city officials and disposed of in the dump in Strong City.
Two of the three charges against Carson were for incidents that occurred May 18 when the dog allegedly aggressed two other Chase County deputies. Each charge is a Class B nonperson misdemeanor.
