A national coffee-and-donut chain could be part of the west Emporia restaurant picture before long.
City officials have confirmed Dunkin’ Donuts has submitted plans to move into the former Which Wich location at what’s commonly known as Prairie Port Plaza, 2000 Industrial. Formal discussions on those plans are pending, but reconstruction is underway at that location and job alerts announcing local positions through Dunkin’ are already being circulated. Also well-known for coffee, Dunkin’ would compete directly with another international chain, Starbucks, as well as local coffee shops like Granada Coffee Company and Gravel City Roasters.
KVOE News has reached out to Dunkin’ Donuts for further information and is awaiting comment. If plans finalize with a new restaurant, Dunkin’ would compete directly with Daylight Donuts, which currently has two locations in Emporia.
Plans pending for possible Scooter’s location
Meanwhile, a regional coffee chain may enter the mix as well. Scooter’s Coffee has announced its intent to build a restaurant in west Emporia as well — although that announcement has not yet led to the formal submission of plans to the city. Scooter’s has tentative plans for a restaurant just south of 18th and Industrial in the northwest corner of the Flinthills Mall parking lot.
Dunkin’ currently has over 8,500 restaurants in the United States and around 3,200 restaurants in 36 countries. Scooter’s has around 200 locations now in 16 states.
