Saturday’s magnitude-4.4 earthquake in northern Oklahoma caused some vibrations across the Flint Hills.
The temblor struck just before 9 am about 15 miles east of Cherokee, Okla., or about 200 miles southwest of Emporia. Strong shaking was commonplace near the epicenter, but there were only a handful of weak to light shaking reports to the US Geological Survey from Emporia, Eureka, Burlington, Cottonwood Falls and Council Grove. At least one KVOE listener reported feeling the quake near Hartford.
Shaking was reported as far away as Carberry, Manitoba.
