Half the KVOE listening area, including Emporia, is now under a heat advisory through most of the upcoming weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties that now continues through 7 pm Sunday. Originally, Wabaunsee County was the only area county included.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says the weather pattern is favorable for our current heat and humidity.
Meyers says there were several factors likely involved in this current heat advisory.
Heat index readings could climb up to 105 degrees with our air temperatures in the mid-90s through the weekend. This sets the stage for heat illness, especially for people spending a lot of time outdoors, children or the elderly.
Remember to stay hydrated if you plan to be outdoors for an extended length of time. Proper hydration includes drinking water or sports drinks instead of caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. This is also the time to wear light, loose-fitting clothes. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, so be sure to look before you lock your car.
We’ll keep you updated on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media.
