Emporia State University has named the new Hornets head baseball coach.
Hornets Assistant Coach Seth Wheeler has officially been named as the replacement for former head coach Bob Fornelli who announced he would be leaving for Pittsburgh State earlier this month. Wheeler has spent the past three seasons as the Hornets pitching coach and has also worked with catchers during his time at ESU.
Wheeler began his coaching career with the Junction City Brigade, a collegiate wood bat team that competes in the Mid-Plains League, the summer after graduating from Central Missouri.
ESU Athletics Director Kent Weiser says in a press release “He carries himself with a maturity beyond his years and that really came out during the interview process. I look forward to him carrying on the tradition of Hornet Baseball.”
A press conference is scheduled for Thursday, June 21 at 2 pm inside the Sauder Alumni Center to formally introduce Wheeler as the new head coach. Greg Rahe will have more coming up in sports.
