One more day of abnormal heat and humidity — at least for mid-June — is coming before welcome changes to the forecast.
A heat advisory in place since Friday morning remains in effect until 7 pm Sunday for Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties, although our other neighboring counties — Chase, Coffey and Greenwood — can expect almost identical conditions as well.
Health officials have been stressing the need to take care of your body, especially during the early stages of our current heat episode. Emporia rescue crews, meanwhile, have already dealt with several heat exposure calls dating back to early May. Battalion Chief Rich Gould:
So far, there have been no heat exposure calls during the current hot weather. Gould says proper hydration, rest and time in air conditioning are recommended until more normal conditions return.
Gould says young, old and people suffering from chronic conditions like diabetes are more at risk for heat-related illnesses than the general population.
Monday will still be a steamy day with highs in the low 90s, but shower and thunderstorm chances return by early afternoon and stay with us at least through Friday. High temperatures will also dip back into the low 80s by Wednesday.
