The heat advisory in effect for most of the KVOE listening area since Thursday has been extended.
The National Weather Service now has Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties, along with north central and northeast Kansas, in an advisory until 8 pm Monday. Heat index readings could approach 105 degrees both Sunday and Monday.
On Saturday, KVOE News posted a story about Emporia rescue crews responding to several heat exposure calls over the past six weeks, although there were no heat exposure calls Saturday. Another heat exposure call was reported at McDonalds, 2810 West 18th, around 12:30 pm Sunday. One person was taken to Newman Regional Health for additional treatment.
Monday will be hot — a high of 94 degrees is expected — but changes are coming to the forecast by early Tuesday morning. Shower and thunderstorm chances begin then and continue through Friday afternoon, with marginal risks of severe weather before sunrise Tuesday and again by late afternoon.
