It’s National Teacher’s Hall of Fame week in Emporia.
Members of the 2018 class are in town for a busy week of festivities, highlighted by the induction ceremony itself Friday and a very special re-dedication ceremony Thursday honoring the national designation for the Memorial to Fallen Educators. NTHF Director Carol Strickland says that ceremony includes a very special gift being bestowed to the memorial.
The re-dedication ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday and will be broadcast live on KVOE 1400 AM/96.9 FM and on KVOE-TV at kvoe.com.
The inductees and their families are being guided through Emporia by host families and will participate in a number of community events this week including a stop to KVOE Wednesday for an appearance on the Talk of Emporia. Strickland says this group of educators has initiative and is interested in helping the Hall of Fame into the future.
The 2018 inductees include Connie Bagley -elementary dyslexia reading specialist in San Marcos, Texas; Jeffrey Baxter – language arts, English teacher at Blue Valley West High in Overland Park, Kansas; Peggy Jackson – retired history and government teacher in Moriarty, New Mexico; Maureen Murphy-Foelkl – general elementary educator in Salem, Oregon; Bradley Upshaw – a long-time elementary teacher in Tarzana, California.
Friday’s events include the banquet at 5:45 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony at 7:15 p.m. in ESU’s Webb Hall.
