TOPEKA — An important decision is ahead for colleges and universities this week.
The Kansas Board of Regents is set to vote on tuition and fee proposals for the upcoming academic year as part of a wide-ranging agenda. Emporia State is proposing a 2.5-percent tuition rate increase across the board, affecting residents, nonresidents, undergraduate and graduate students. The university is also proposing fee increases ranging from 1.6 to 2.4 percent. All proceeds will offset rate changes for fringe benefits and faculty promotion.
The Board of Regents meets Wednesday and Thursday in Topeka. The decision on tuition and fee rates is set for Wednesday’s agenda.
Tuition and fee increases come after lawmakers approved an additional $15 million for higher education in a budget ceremonially signed by Gov. Jeff Colyer at Emporia State earlier this spring, but ESU President Allison Garrett says the revenue going to ESU as a result of this step would not totally cover cuts of over $800,000 from several years ago.
