Separate pleas were entered in Lyon County District Court this week by an Emporia couple accused of a local marijuana grow operation.
Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman tells KVOE News that Octavia Ellis, 35, entered a no contest plea and was subsequently found guilty of aggravated child endangerment at her hearing Wednesday. She was then released from custody and will appear for sentencing Aug. 3.
William Ellis, 36 waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday and has pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated child endangerment as well as a charge of cultivating controlled substances. His next hearing is coming July 13.
The couple was arrested May 1 as part of a narcotics investigation by Emporia Police. Following a tip that the couple was seen smoking marijuana, investigators obtained a warrant and allegedly found evidence of a grow operation at 1411 Lawrence, including live, dried and harvested plants, paraphernalia and guns.
