The United Way of the Flint Hills is busy with several projects this summer.
Two of those deal with limiting summer learning loss. Community Impact Manager Hannah Crowl says a recently-acquired grant through Blue Cross Blue Shield will let the United Way reach out to kids across the area.
The United Way is also partnering with the Emporia State Library and Archives for the second straight year to help distribute books submitted for potential honors through the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards program.
Crowl says projects like Summer Climbin’ are important because students may lose up to two months of learning progress during the summer.
In addition, the United Way is also gearing up for a special cybersecurity training session for nonprofit agencies next week. It’s free for all nonprofits. Call 342-7564 to register.
Preparation also continues for the upcoming fundraising drive. Director Jami Reever will discuss that topic as well as a recent trip to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday’s Newsmaker II segment.
